If you've been trying to figure out how to gain weight fast, you can count yourself among the increasing number of people who are opting to add lean muscle to their body instead of trying to look like a stick figure. You would think packing on a few pounds would be an easy task, right? For some, they couldn't gain weight fast if they sat in a fast food joint launching cheese burgers and fries down their throat with a slingshot, and washing it all down with a lard shakes. Trust me, I'm one of those people. My metabolism is so fast that I think I burn calories by simply thinking about food.

So, if you're like me, and your goal is to gain weight quickly, or to gain weight and muscle fast, it is more than likely going to take a little planning and dedication on your part. The very first thing that you should keep in mind is that there are no supplements, pills, or protein shakes that will cause you to add pounds by themselves, if they are used at all, they have to be part of a bigger plan to reach your goal.



Just for a minute, let's say that you've decided that you want to pack on a few pounds of lean muscle. Naturally, the first thing that runs through your mind is how to gain weight fast, right? I mean, lets not kid ourselves here. We live in a society that requires instant gratification, not one where our expectation is that we will have to work hard to get results. Sure, we might not admit that to ourselves, but subconsciously it is indeed the way most of us act and think. If it wasn't, why would we spend so much money on things like weight gain pills, supplements, and protein shakes? It's a multi-billion dollar industry.



If you want to pack on the pounds quickly though, the best thing you can do for yourself is to set your expectations correctly. Basically, you should expect to put in a decent amount of effort, and to have to exercise a little bit of discipline and self control.



Now, I'm not saying that you have to let the fact that you want to gain some weight consume your life, or to completely change the way you live. As a matter of fact, there are some shortcuts that you can take, but you have to pay attention to the way your body reacts, and what your threshold for calories and exercise are. Let's take a look at a few shortcuts for a minute.



Eating calorie heavy meals after a workout - For some people trying to gain weight fast, this one is kind of tricky, because when they get done with their workout, they simply aren't hungry. So, trying to load up on calories is the last thing on their mind. So, to make it easier, you want to concentrate on foods that pack the biggest calorie and protein punch in the smallest portion sizes. A great example of these kinds of foods is Red Meat and Potatoes. Men especially, can choke down a big steak and a pile of spuds even if they aren't hungry, simply because it's steak and potatoes. So, if you are trying to add some muscle and weight to your frame, this is a great example of a fall back meal when you aren't hungry.



Exercise for weight not for repetitions - Most of us when we are using any exercise routines try to life a weight as many times as we possibly can. When you are trying to figure out how to gain weight fast though, you want to switch gears a little bit, and go for the highest weight you can possibly lift as long as you can get it up 4 times or more. The goal is to actually rip your muscles to pack on mass. You very well could lose a couple inches in areas where it is needed, such as around the waist, but in it's place will be lean and heavy muscle which weighs more than fat, so it definitely helps you achieve your goal.



Regardless of the reason you are trying to put a couple of pounds on, just like everything else, there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. Unfortunately, too many people try to take the easy way out and fall pathetically short of their goals. In this case, they don't add any weight, or they add the wrong kind of pounds and simply end up fat, instead of fit. If you want to add muscle mass and weight quickly, effectively, and in a healthy manner, find a routine and stick with it, that is the easiest path to success.
